Seriously?

We have been enjoying (and I'm using enjoying, very sarcastically) several snow events over the last week.  Last Sunday and then again yesterday, the skies of opened and inches and inches of snow have come cascading down.  Now while that is a wonderful event in December or January with the opportunity for skiing, snowperson making, and peaceful walks - in April it just stinks.  We are ready to be enjoying warm walks in just a shirt or maybe a light jacket - not 30 degrees and weather people talking about wind chill again.

Well that's enough griping about the precipitation - we spent a good part of the week emptying stuff out of the house and into our apartment.  We still don't have much in the way of furniture, but the kitchen is almost fully stocked and we think we have the clothes we need in place.  Although, we are both getting a bit tired of shuttling items around the lower part of Wisconsin, between moving items to Madison or downtown.

Jo started off on Saturday with a root canal, which went smoothly, although not the best way for her to enjoy one of her two days off in the week.  She followed that up with a massage to help ease out the tension from having her tooth drilled.  Later that evening, we had a wonderful dinner with our neighbors across the street, Audrey and John, at the local Italian place that is walking distance down the street.  The snow hadn't moved in as yet, so it was a nice evening walk.

Sunday's highlight was boxing up more stuff and then later that evening we were able to join several of Jo's work colleagues to watch the Buck's first playoff game at the new arena downtown.  The Bucks won so lots of fun for all.

Got to Do Some Catching Up

It has been a while since I've written anything - mostly due to some travel, a lot of general laziness, and a little of not having anything really interesting to post.  We spent a week in South Carolina recently at one of Jo's work events.  It was nice to be somewhere where the temperatures got into the 70's.  Not every day - we had a couple of raining days in the 50's - but most of the week was nice.  While there we got to spend a day touring Savannah which I hadn't had the opportunity to see before.  Lovely river town with beautiful green squares every couple of blocks.  We also took the opportunity to try our first chicken and waffles.  I must say while it was a fine meal, it was just two pieces of fried chicken plopped onto a waffle.  Now understand, covering the concoction in maple syrup made it all quite tasty - but seriously, it was just chicken on a waffle.  I certainly didn't come away understanding the big allure of this meal - especially that this meal would lead to a chain of Waffle Houses across America.

Certainly a highlight of the restaurant where we had the famous chicken and waffles was a giant peanut plopped casually in the parking lot.  Why a peanut at this restaurant - not a clue - there wasn't peanut in the name of the place, peanuts weren't on the menu, and the store that was attached wasn't peanut themed.  Just trying to ride the fame of lowly peanut we supposed.  But it did made for a picture worthy moment to add to our collection of pictures next to blown up food items.

Anyway, we spent an afternoon kayaking the May River which was quite pleasant - although rivers are always a tough row when you are heading upriver.  We did find some time to visit Hilton Head which was nearby and picked up another Salty Dog Cafe T-shirt - we had last gotten one almost 20 years ago with our friend Holly.  To round out the fun activities we played our first game of pickleball - which we are fully intending to find a league back here to join - got in a nice afternoon of biking, and managed not to get eaten by the alligators that were freely roaming the resort we were staying at.

Oh, did I mention that we actually did some work as well.  Had several interesting cocktail hours and a chance to interact with the NM's sales leaders.  Although, I do run out of items to discuss when you are on your third cocktail party in a week.  We did dress up for a few of the event - tux for me and Jo looked lovely in evening wear.  We can clean up when we need to - just neither of us really ever wants to.  We came home just in time to get the keys to our new apartment downtown.  Brand new place with nice views over the city of Milwaukee.  We will be moving in full time soon but in the mean time every trip downtown we have to take a load of stuff - it seems like that is all we have been doing for months.

After checking out our new digs we headed over to Madison for a dinner at Graze with Jim and Judy before heading to see Miss Saigon at the Overture Center.  It brought back memories for us since we had last seen it in Philly, many, many moons ago.  Then it was up early to get back to Milwaukee to help our estate guy take another load out of the house.  The place is starting to look a bit bare as there isn't any art on the walls and lots of the little items are gone.  We finished off our Sunday with a Bucks game.  Jo was hosting some of her old HR colleagues at the suite.  Saw a great game as our Bucks won and are heading into the playoffs with the best record in the NBA - wow.
